Trump Calls on Iran to Compensate US Victims of Attacks and Protests

Former US President Donald Trump on Monday insisted that Iran should provide compensation for individuals he claimed were killed or severely injured in attacks linked to Tehran. This statement came after Iran sought reparations for damages caused by US and Israeli military actions.

Trump shared his remarks on Truth Social, coinciding with Iran’s announcement that it was nearing an agreement with Oman regarding new shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has stipulated that the waterway will remain closed unless the United States fulfills several conditions, including compensation payments, lifting sanctions, and ceasing military threats.

“It is an interesting idea because now I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran,” Trump stated, referencing what he described as Iranian attacks involving roadside bombs and other conflicts that resulted in casualties.

Additionally, Trump called for reparations related to the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in a Yemeni port, which killed 17 US sailors and injured over 30 others. The FBI has attributed this attack to al Qaeda.

He also urged compensation for families of those killed during the anti-government protests in January, which he characterized as Iran’s most severe internal unrest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Human rights organizations have accused Iranian authorities of continuing to suppress dissent throughout the unrest.
