NCCIA warns against fake social media profiles of women

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has warned against creating fake social media profiles of women, leaking their personal information and images, and blackmailing them online. The agency issued the warning on Monday in a statement shared on social media, saying such acts are cybercrimes punishable under the law.

In a separate case, police in Azad Jammu and Kashmir arrested a suspect in Mirpur over a fake TikTok account. The arrest followed a complaint from a family whose daughter’s video had been posted without her consent.

NCCIA urges citizens to report online harassment

The agency said that blackmailing women and leaking anyone’s personal data are crimes. It asked citizens not to stay silent and to speak out against people involved in online harassment, filing complaints with relevant evidence.

The NCCIA said, “A safer digital Pakistan is a shared responsibility,” and encouraged the public to report online harassment, fake profiles, misuse of private images and blackmail through its helpline at 1799. Victims and affected individuals were also urged to come forward to help build a safer digital environment.

Mirpur police arrest suspect over fake TikTok video

According to a police spokesperson, the case came to light on September 25, 2026, when the victim’s family approached SSP Mirpur Khurram Iqbal and lodged a complaint. The family said an unidentified person recorded their daughter while she was travelling to an academy with her brother, then uploaded the video to a TikTok account without her consent.

Taking notice, SSP Khurram Iqbal directed the Cyber Crime Unit Mirpur to investigate using modern technical resources and to take legal action under the law. The spokesperson said the unit traced the allegedly fake account and identified the suspect as Essa, son of Afzal, a resident of Bang Rarah in Islamgarh tehsil of Mirpur district.

Further investigation under way after arrest

SHO Islamgarh Umair Rasheed, along with a police team, subsequently arrested the suspect. The spokesperson added that further investigation is under way to establish the facts and examine all aspects of the case.
