Philippines Condemns Chinese Media for Racist AI Video on South China Sea

The Philippines has strongly condemned a video released by China Daily that used artificial intelligence to depict a monkey singing China’s territorial claims over the South China Sea. This provocative portrayal has been widely criticized as racist and inflammatory, exacerbating already tense relations between the two nations. The South China Sea dispute involves overlapping claims by several countries, including the Philippines and China, over strategic maritime areas rich in resources.

China Daily’s video, which anthropomorphizes a monkey to vocalize Beijing’s stance, has sparked outrage for its offensive imagery and the use of AI technology to spread political messages. This incident highlights the growing role of digital media and artificial intelligence in geopolitical conflicts, where symbolic content can inflame nationalist sentiments. The Philippines views this as an attempt to undermine its sovereignty and dignity in the ongoing maritime dispute.

In a significant development, Manila’s response underscores the sensitivity surrounding the South China Sea issue, which remains a flashpoint in Southeast Asia. The international community continues to watch closely as both countries navigate diplomatic and strategic challenges. This episode may further complicate efforts to reach peaceful resolutions and maintain regional stability amid competing claims and national pride.
