EU Urges Israel to Stop Lebanon Strikes, Warns of US-Iran Ceasefire Risk

The European Union has issued a strong appeal to Israel to immediately halt its military strikes on Lebanon, emphasizing that these operations are jeopardizing the fragile ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. This call came during a statement by the EU’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, who highlighted the broader implications of the ongoing conflict in the region.

In a significant development, Kallas stressed that the ceasefire brokered between Washington and Tehran should be respected and extended to include Lebanon, where tensions have escalated sharply. She pointed out that while Hezbollah’s involvement has drawn Lebanon into the conflict, Israel’s response has resulted in extensive destruction that cannot be justified solely as self-defense. The recent Israeli airstrikes reportedly caused hundreds of casualties, raising serious concerns about the proportionality of the military actions.

Furthermore, Kallas underscored the necessity for Hezbollah to fulfill its commitment to disarmament, a process supported by the European Union as part of broader efforts to stabilize Lebanon. The EU’s stance reflects a desire to see a peaceful resolution that prevents further escalation and safeguards regional security. The ongoing violence threatens not only Lebanon’s stability but also the delicate balance maintained by the US-Iran ceasefire, which is crucial for preventing wider conflict.

Meanwhile, the international community continues to monitor the situation closely, urging all parties involved to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions. The EU’s intervention highlights the complex dynamics at play and the urgent need for dialogue to prevent further deterioration of peace efforts in the Middle East.
