Godox has launched the A2, a xenon flash designed for Apple iPhones that attaches to the back of the phone using MagSafe. The accessory targets a known weakness of smartphones, whose LED flashes are typically weaker than the xenon flashes on compact cameras, which can fill shadows even in daylight.
The flash works only with iPhone 15 and newer models, including the iPhone 16e and iPhone Air. It is available for about $85 on Amazon, and more details are on the Godox website.
Wireless operation and camera app controls
Because the A2 connects over Bluetooth, it can be used wirelessly and placed at any angle. Users switch it on, pair it with their phone, and then operate it through the Godox camera app.
The app can sync the flash with shutter speeds up to 1/8,000s. It offers automatic exposure as well as a manual mode, letting users adjust both shutter speed and flash power.
Battery, video light and magnetic accessories
The flash includes a built-in 3-watt LED that can be used as a video light. According to Godox, the battery lasts for 400 flashes or one hour of LED light at full power, and it recharges via USB-C.
The A2 weighs 93 grams and can be customized with magnetic accessories such as diffusers, grids, or color filters.
