Pakistan is gearing up for a high-profile encounter against India in the group stage of the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, with the eagerly awaited match set to take place on August 19 in Amstelveen, Netherlands. This fixture is expected to draw significant attention given the historic rivalry and competitive spirit between the two nations in field hockey. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) finalized the tournament schedule on March 18, following the announcement of the pool draws the previous day.

The upcoming men’s World Cup will be hosted jointly by Belgium and the Netherlands, running from August 15 to August 30. Pakistan finds itself in Pool D, a challenging group that includes India, England, and Wales. This grouping presents a tough test for Pakistan, especially as the team returns to the World Cup stage after an eight-year hiatus, aiming to re-establish itself among the sport’s elite.

Pakistan’s campaign will kick off on August 15 against England at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen. Following this, they will face Wales on August 17 before locking horns with India two days later at the same venue. Notably, all of Pakistan’s group matches are scheduled to be played in the Netherlands, which could offer some logistical consistency as the team navigates the early rounds of the competition.

The team earned its spot in the World Cup by advancing to the final of the qualification tournament held in Ismailia, Egypt. Despite a 4-1 defeat to England in the final, Pakistan’s strong performance throughout the qualifiers secured their passage to the main event. This achievement has rekindled hopes among fans and analysts alike that Pakistan can deliver a more impactful performance on hockey’s grandest stage this time around.

The 2026 tournament will feature 16 men’s teams competing across two venues: the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen and the Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium. The match between Pakistan and India is anticipated to be one of the most watched and fiercely contested games of the group phase, reflecting the deep-rooted sporting rivalry and passion shared by both countries. As the tournament approaches, all eyes will be on this marquee clash, which promises excitement and intense competition.
