Pakistan Faces Stiff Resistance from West Indies on Day One of First Test

Pakistan encountered significant difficulty in making further breakthroughs after initial successes as the West Indies closed the opening day of the first Test at 194-3, despite interruptions caused by rain and poor light conditions.

After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bowl first. However, persistent rain limited the morning session to just 14.1 overs. Once play resumed, Pakistan’s bowlers maintained tight control, but the West Indies batsmen displayed patience and discipline, frustrating the visitors’ efforts to claim wickets.

Pakistan began positively with Mohammad Abbas dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Amir Jangoo early, putting the hosts under pressure. Nevertheless, Keacy Carty and captain Shai Hope consolidated the innings with a resilient partnership, denying Pakistan further breakthroughs for the majority of the day.

Brandon King was dismissed for 12 runs, while Carty remained unbeaten on a half-century. Hope also stayed not out as the duo guided West Indies to a strong position by stumps.

Abbas was the standout bowler for Pakistan, taking two wickets with his precise bowling and exploiting the conditions after the rain. Despite this, Pakistan could not build on their early momentum as the hosts gradually gained control of the innings.

The day’s play ended prematurely due to fading light, with umpires deciding to take the players off the field. Although there was a brief delay in hopes of resuming, the conditions did not improve.

West Indies will continue their innings at 194-3 on the second day, while Pakistan will be eager to secure early wickets to prevent the hosts from posting a large first-innings total.
