This will be Trout’s 11th All-Star start with the Angels, placing him among a select group of players with the most All-Star starts for a single franchise. The upcoming All-Star Game holds special meaning as it will take place near his hometown of Millville, New Jersey, where he resides during the offseason.
Trout expressed enthusiasm about the event, highlighting the opportunity to share the experience with his children and family. “I love playing in it, but it’s an experience for my kids and family,” he said. “It’s going to be good to be able to stay at my house and enjoy a few days.” He is anticipated to rejoin the Angels’ lineup on Tuesday for their upcoming road series against the Texas Rangers.
Meanwhile, the Angels are enduring a challenging stretch, having dropped five consecutive games following an 8-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Manager Kurt Suzuki acknowledged the difficulty of the situation, stating there was “nothing much you can do” after the defeat.
For Sunday’s series finale against Boston, right-hander Ryan Johnson (1-3, 7.40 ERA) is set to make his first career start against the Red Sox. On the other side, Boston continues to perform strongly, led by left-hander Ranger Suarez (4-3, 2.94 ERA), who will start after earning his second All-Star selection since joining the Red Sox from the Philadelphia Phillies.
