Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has set out how applicants can convert an older identity card into a National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). The procedure is aimed at people who want to replace a card without an electronic chip with a smart card.
Registration, documents and biometric checks
Applicants are required to bring a list of specified documents when they visit their nearest NADRA registration centre. On arrival, they must collect a token and wait for their turn.
Next, applicants undergo biometric verification at the centre. NADRA officials then enter their personal details, capture their fingerprints and photograph, and complete the required IRS process.
Application review, approval and online payment
The application is then reviewed for approval. If the officer in charge considers it necessary, the applicant may be asked questions about their family background, and they must answer them.
Once approved, the applicant receives a confirmation message on their registered mobile number. They can then pay the applicable fee online, based on the processing category they selected. The procedure also lists processing timelines for each category.
Fee basis and collecting the NICOP
NADRA said NICOP fees are calculated according to the exchange rate in the applicant’s country. Full details of the charges are available on the authority’s official website.
After the processing period ends, applicants can collect their NICOP from the same registration centre by presenting their receipt.
