Kostyuk Stuns Swiatek in French Open Fourth Round Clash

In a significant development at the French Open, Ukrainian 15th seed Marta Kostyuk delivered a stunning performance to eliminate Iga Swiatek from the tournament. Kostyuk secured a decisive 7-5, 6-1 victory in the fourth round at Roland Garros on Sunday, halting Swiatek’s pursuit of a fifth French Open crown.

The match took place on what was Swiatek’s 25th birthday, a day that promised celebration but instead turned into a challenging encounter for the Polish star. Kostyuk, who had lost all three previous meetings against Swiatek, maintained remarkable composure throughout the contest. She managed to claim the first set after a tightly fought battle marked by several service breaks. The crucial moment came in the 11th game, where Kostyuk held her nerve and clinched the set with an impressive backhand crosscourt winner.

Building on the momentum from the opening set, Kostyuk dominated the second set, quickly establishing a 3-1 lead. From there, she controlled the match with confidence and precision, never allowing Swiatek to regain footing. This victory not only ended Swiatek’s run at Roland Garros but also extended Kostyuk’s unbeaten streak on clay courts this season to an impressive 15-0.

With this win, Kostyuk advances to the quarter-finals, where she is set to face either Elina Svitolina or Belinda Bencic. Her triumph at Roland Garros adds to an already successful clay season, having previously claimed titles in Rouen and Madrid. This result marks a major milestone in Kostyuk’s career and shakes up the competition as the tournament progresses.
