Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the ongoing human rights abuses in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Speaking at a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir held in New York, Dar expressed gratitude to the OIC, the Contact Group, and the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission for their persistent backing of the Kashmir cause.
He criticized India’s actions on August 5, 2019, when New Delhi revoked the special constitutional status of IIOJK and restructured the region’s administrative framework.
Dar alleged that there were ongoing attempts to change the demographic makeup of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted that Kashmiri political figures, including leaders of the Hurriyat Conference, remained detained. Furthermore, he accused Indian authorities of targeting journalists and youth, with killings reportedly occurring during what were described as “so-called” search operations.
He labeled the situation as continuing “Indian state terrorism,” pointing to widespread extrajudicial killings and arbitrary detentions. Dar emphasized that Kashmiris were subjected to abuses following unlawful detentions.
In a significant development, Dar called on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to honor their commitments to the Kashmiri people and actively contribute to resolving the dispute.
He urged collective efforts to achieve a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict that aligns with the aspirations and right to self-determination of the Kashmiri population.
The OIC Contact Group on IIOJK convened in New York alongside the United Nations General Assembly session, underscoring the international attention on the Kashmir issue.
