US and Pakistani officials have successfully confiscated around 463 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine valued at $21 million in a joint operation targeting a narcotics network originating from Afghanistan. The seizure occurred on August 30, following coordinated efforts led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Islamabad office (DEA Islamabad) alongside Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).
Notably, the operation also involved collaboration with Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotics Bureau and the DEA’s New Delhi office. Between August 14 and 29, the ANF’s Karachi-based Port Control Unit identified suspicious containers destined for shipment from Pakistan to Colombo, which were suspected to contain illicit drugs sourced from Afghanistan.
This discovery prompted the ANF to notify DEA Islamabad, which then coordinated with authorities across the involved countries to intercept the narcotics and apprehend multiple suspects, including individuals of Pakistani origin.
In a significant development, the US government has provided ongoing foreign assistance to support the training of ANF personnel, strengthening their role as a crucial partner in advancing US counternarcotics priorities. The United States remains dedicated to collaborating with Pakistan to dismantle transnational criminal organizations and protect US citizens from the threats posed by narcotrafficking.
Meanwhile, halting the flow of illicit drugs has been emphasized as a key security objective by the Trump administration, reflecting its commitment to enhancing America’s safety through international cooperation.
