The federal government has granted approval for the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for a period of six months. This decision, formalized through an Interior Ministry notification dated August 21, aims to bolster security measures in the city amid concerns over maintaining public order.

The deployment was authorized under Article 245 of the Constitution, which allows the armed forces to assist civil authorities in maintaining law and order. This move follows a formal request from the Punjab Home Department, highlighting the need for enhanced security arrangements in Rawalpindi.

The notification specifies that the troops will be tasked with sensitive security duties to prevent any undesirable incidents and to ensure a swift and effective response to unforeseen situations. The deployment will be coordinated in close cooperation with the district administration to address any emerging challenges promptly.

Notably, the deployment is set to take effect immediately and will remain in place for six months. This measure underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining stability and public safety in Rawalpindi during this period.
