Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to strengthen their security collaboration, focusing on counter-narcotics initiatives, border control, and law enforcement training. This decision was made during a meeting between Federal Interior and Narcotics Control Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Sri Lankan Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
In a significant development, both countries decided to establish immediate and direct communication channels between the heads of their immigration authorities. This step aims to enhance efforts against human trafficking, prevent illegal immigration, and identify forged passports used for international travel.
Meanwhile, the ministers discussed a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) to combat organised crime syndicates and money laundering networks more effectively. They also agreed to form a joint working group to foster deeper institutional cooperation between their interior ministries.
Notably, both sides committed to addressing outstanding visa-related issues promptly to facilitate legitimate bilateral travel, reflecting their mutual interest in improving cross-border movement and security.
