Punjab Establishes New Authority to Oversee State-Owned Assets

The Punjab government has launched a new Asset Management Authority tasked with centralizing the oversight, leasing, and disposal of all state-owned land and properties. This initiative aims to unify the management of provincial assets, which were previously handled by multiple independent departments with fragmented records.

During a meeting to discuss the authority’s legal framework, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of having comprehensive visibility over every asset owned by the province to ensure effective resource management. The new authority will serve as the sole entity responsible for all matters related to government land management, streamlining processes that were once scattered across various agencies.

Officials highlighted that 80 percent of the net revenue generated from projects under the authority’s management will be directly deposited into the provincial treasury. This measure is expected to close financial gaps and reduce revenue leakages significantly.

The authority will be governed by an 11-member board chaired by the Punjab chief secretary. A Grade-20 civil servant will be appointed as managing director to handle the daily administrative and operational responsibilities of the organization.

In a related development, Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to rural development. She pointed to ongoing investments in education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods aimed at strengthening rural communities. Notably, the provincial government is expanding its electric bus transit network into rural areas for the first time and implementing the “Suthra Punjab” sanitation campaign across villages.

“Investing in rural communities means investing in the foundations of more resilient societies,” Nawaz remarked, underscoring the broader social impact of these initiatives.
