The top military leadership of Pakistan has pledged to take all necessary steps to safeguard the country’s rightful share of water resources. This commitment was announced during the 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, chaired by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
In a significant development, the military addressed the ongoing tensions following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) after the killing of 26 people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in April 2025. India accused Pakistan of orchestrating the attack, an allegation Islamabad has firmly denied. The forum reaffirmed adherence to the National Security Committee’s directive issued on April 24, 2025, expressing a resolute commitment to ensure Pakistan’s water rights in line with government instructions and the aspirations of its people.
The conference also paid tribute to the sacrifices of armed forces personnel, law enforcement agencies, and innocent civilians, recognizing their role as the foundation of Pakistan’s security, unity, and resilience. The military leadership reviewed the current security situation, expressing satisfaction with the operational readiness, professionalism, and combat capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, the forum voiced serious concerns over the continued use of Afghan territory controlled by the Taliban regime by Indian-backed terrorist groups, including Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan, to launch attacks inside Pakistan. It stressed that lasting peace and stability in the region depend on preventing Afghan soil from being exploited by these proxies, holding the Afghan Taliban regime directly responsible.
Pakistan’s unequivocal right to defend its citizens against terrorism was emphasized, with the armed forces committed to continuing intelligence-driven operations under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq targeting threats originating from Taliban-controlled areas.
In addition to military actions, the leadership highlighted the urgent need to establish strong governance structures in volatile regions to provide public services and welfare, aiming to dismantle the terror-crime nexus sustained by vested political interests. The forum noted an increased reliance on hybrid warfare tactics and disinformation campaigns, particularly following last year’s Mark-e-Haq operation, condemning all forms of state-sponsored proxy support and vowing to counter such destabilization efforts with strategic clarity and resolve.
Reviewing the regional dynamics, the commanders appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and regional stability. They reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, respect for international law, and enhanced cooperation to tackle shared security challenges.
The forum strongly condemned ongoing human rights abuses and unilateral demographic changes in IIOJK, reiterating that Kashmir remains the vital issue for Pakistan. It reaffirmed unwavering diplomatic, political, and moral support for the Kashmiri cause, emphasizing that true regional peace depends on granting Kashmiris their right to self-determination as outlined in United Nations Security Council resolutions.
In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir directed commanders to swiftly advance the multi-domain transformation plan in accordance with the evolving nature of warfare. He urged maintaining the highest levels of vigilance, operational readiness, and professional excellence, stressing integrated responses to conventional, sub-conventional, and hybrid threats to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and national interests at all costs.
