Former federal minister Senator Pervaiz Rasheed stated on Wednesday that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had intended to extend the tenure of his preferred candidate as army chief. However, the appointment of Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir based on merit has clarified the situation.

Addressing the Senate, Rasheed emphasized that Pakistan currently enjoys significant respect on the international stage, with global leaders commending the country’s progress. He reflected on the period during Nawaz Sharif’s premiership when the economy was expanding, despite facing street protests.

In a significant development, Rasheed highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic contributions, noting its role in mediating between the US and Iran, as well as between the US and China. This underscores the country’s longstanding commitment to fostering regional and global peace.

He extended congratulations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their ongoing efforts in strengthening Pakistan’s international standing. Rasheed pointed out that the world continues to acknowledge the leadership’s ability to prevent conflicts and promote peace.

Concluding on a positive note, Rasheed remarked that the recent clear skies following unseasonal rains symbolize a sense of joy and optimism for the nation’s future.
