PM Shehbaz Reviews Austerity Measures to Boost Petrol Conservation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently convened a high-level meeting to evaluate the progress and enforcement of austerity measures designed to conserve fuel in response to ongoing regional and domestic energy difficulties. The session focused on strategies to reduce petroleum consumption while maintaining stable electricity supplies across the country.

Officials presented detailed plans during the briefing, including the proposal to close markets and shopping malls by 8 PM. This initiative aims to curb unnecessary energy use, save precious foreign exchange reserves, and support the national effort to manage limited fuel resources more efficiently. The government is also in active discussions with the Sindh provincial authorities to ensure the smooth implementation of these early closure policies.

In a significant development, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the critical role of petroleum products in Pakistan’s electricity generation mix. He called on citizens to actively engage in the petrol-saving and austerity campaign, stressing that collective responsibility is essential to overcoming the current energy challenges. The prime minister also issued a stern warning against the hoarding of petroleum products, declaring that those found involved in such practices would face stringent legal consequences.

These austerity measures reflect the government’s broader commitment to addressing the energy crisis through practical conservation efforts and regulatory oversight. By encouraging public participation and coordinating with provincial governments, the administration aims to mitigate the impact of fuel shortages and stabilize the country’s energy infrastructure during this challenging period.
