Federal Government Reinstates Standard Office Hours Following Ramadan Conclusion

In a recent development, the Government of Pakistan has officially reinstated the standard working hours for all federal government offices now that the holy month of Ramadan has concluded. This decision was formalized through an official notification issued by the Establishment Division, signaling a return to the usual office routines that were temporarily adjusted during Ramadan to accommodate fasting hours and religious observances.

The notification specifies that these revised office hours are effective immediately and will continue to be observed until any further directives are issued. This move is part of the government’s efforts to normalize administrative functions and ensure smooth operations across various departments after the special timings implemented during the fasting month.

the new schedule, government offices that operate on a five-day workweek will now function from Monday through Friday, starting at 8:00 am and concluding at 4:00 pm. Within this timeframe, employees will observe a combined prayer and lunch break from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm, allowing adequate time for rest and religious duties. This schedule aims to balance productivity with the well-being of government staff as they transition back to regular hours.

Meanwhile, offices that follow a six-day workweek will maintain their operations from Monday to Saturday, with working hours set from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. These offices will also observe the same half-hour break between 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm. This arrangement is designed to maintain consistency across different government sectors while respecting the operational needs of various departments.

The Establishment Division has circulated this notification widely, ensuring that all federal ministries, divisions, provincial chief secretaries, and other relevant institutions are informed promptly. This comprehensive communication aims to facilitate a coordinated return to normal office hours nationwide, minimizing any confusion or disruption in government services.

It is worth noting that the adjustment of office timings during Ramadan is a customary practice in Pakistan, reflecting the country’s cultural and religious sensitivities. The return to regular hours marks the end of this temporary phase and signals a resumption of full administrative activities as the government moves forward with its agenda.
