Medical Board Conducts Thorough Eye Examination of Imran Khan at Adiala Jail

On Wednesday, a specially appointed medical board carried out an in-depth examination of the injured eye of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan inside Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. This medical assessment was conducted following explicit directives issued by the Islamabad High Court, underscoring the judiciary’s active role in overseeing the health conditions of high-profile detainees. The examination marks a significant development in the ongoing legal and medical scrutiny surrounding the former prime minister’s health while in custody.

The medical team was assembled under the supervision of the Commissioner Islamabad, who acted on the court’s instructions to ensure that the examination was conducted with full medical rigor and transparency. The group arrived at the jail accompanied by essential medical personnel and an ambulance outfitted with advanced diagnostic equipment, enabling a comprehensive evaluation of the eye injury within the secure confines of the prison. This setup highlights the authorities’ efforts to provide adequate healthcare facilities despite the challenging environment of a correctional institution.

The board itself consists of a panel of highly qualified and experienced doctors from various specialties. Among them are Professor Altaf Hussain, an expert in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders; Professor Akhtar Ali Bandesha, a cardiologist; Dr. Muhammad Ali Arif, a medical specialist and associate professor; Dr. Muhammad Arif Khan, an associate professor specializing in ophthalmology; and Professor Nadeem Qureshi, a vitreo-retinal surgeon affiliated with Al-Shifa Eye Hospital. The diverse expertise of the team ensures a multidisciplinary approach to assessing the former prime minister’s condition, reflecting the seriousness with which the court and medical authorities are treating the case.

Prison officials confirmed that the medical examination is being conducted strictly in accordance with the court’s orders. The process is ongoing and is taking place in the presence of Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, who has been allowed to attend the proceedings. This presence not only adds a layer of transparency but also provides emotional support to the patient during the medical evaluation. Authorities have also ensured that all necessary medical equipment and facilities are readily available to facilitate a thorough and accurate diagnosis.

Once the examination concludes, the medical board will compile a detailed report outlining their findings and recommendations. This report will be submitted to the Chief Commissioner, who will then forward it to the Islamabad High Court for further consideration. The outcome of this report could have important implications for Imran Khan’s ongoing legal situation and his access to medical care while incarcerated. This development is being closely monitored by political circles and the public alike, given the high-profile nature of the case and the concerns raised about the former prime minister’s health.
