Nadra Alerts Public to Fraudulent Website Mimicking Official Visa Portal

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has issued an important warning to the public regarding a counterfeit website that is impersonating its official visa portal. This fraudulent platform aims to deceive users into divulging sensitive personal information and making unauthorized payments. Nadra emphasized that this fake site is not connected to the organisation in any way and cautioned citizens to remain vigilant.

The bogus website in question operates under the URL https://www.visa.nadragov.online, closely resembling Nadra’s authentic visa portal to mislead unsuspecting visitors. However, the legitimate and only official visa portal managed by Nadra is https://visa.nadra.gov.pk. The authority strongly advised the public to avoid visiting or interacting with any site that does not end with the official government domain suffix “.gov.pk,” which serves as a key indicator of authenticity for government services.

In addition to Nadra’s alert, the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has also stepped forward with a security advisory highlighting the growing threat of cyber fraud targeting citizens’ personal data. Over the past month alone, NCERT successfully identified and blocked nine fake websites designed to mimic Nadra’s online services. These sites were attempting to harvest confidential information from users, putting their privacy and security at significant risk.

The advisory from NCERT urged individuals to exercise caution by refraining from sharing personal details unless they have thoroughly verified the legitimacy of the website or communication channel. It also warned against clicking on suspicious links received through emails, text messages, or other forms of digital communication, as these could be phishing attempts aimed at compromising user data.

Both Nadra and NCERT reaffirmed their commitment to continuously monitor the cyber landscape and take swift action against fraudulent activities that threaten the integrity of government services and the safety of citizens’ information. They encouraged the public to report any suspicious websites or communications to help authorities combat these deceptive practices effectively.

As digital services become increasingly integral to everyday life, especially for vital processes like visa applications, it is crucial for users to remain alert and verify the authenticity of online platforms. By following these guidelines and relying solely on official government websites, citizens can protect themselves from falling victim to cyber scams and identity theft.
