Federal and Provincial Governments Launch Phased Deployment of Federal Constabulary in Balochista…

The federal government and the provincial administration of Balochistan have reached a significant consensus to bolster law and order in the province by initiating a phased deployment of the Federal Constabulary. This strategic decision was finalized during a high-level law and order meeting convened at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, underscoring the joint commitment of both governments to address the persistent security challenges faced by the region.

The meeting was co-chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, bringing together senior officials from federal and provincial institutions. This collaborative forum provided a platform to deliberate on the current security landscape and to outline actionable steps towards sustainable peace. the official press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the deployment will begin with two wings of the Federal Constabulary stationed in the province, eventually expanding to approximately 3,000 personnel. These forces will be strategically positioned in sensitive and high-risk areas to reinforce existing security arrangements and support local law enforcement agencies.

It is important to note that the Federal Constabulary, previously known as the Frontier Constabulary, underwent a comprehensive structural overhaul last year under the Frontier Constabulary (Re-organisation) Ordinance, 2025. Despite this transformation, the force remains under federal jurisdiction but continues to provide vital security and administrative support across Pakistan. The operational authority of the Federal Constabulary is determined by the provinces that request its deployment, while the federal government retains overall command and oversight, ensuring a unified approach to national security.

During the meeting, both the Centre and Balochistan government reaffirmed their dedication to establishing long-lasting peace through enhanced coordination, stronger law enforcement mechanisms, and improved institutional cooperation. Key officials, including the chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the director general of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and the inspector general of the Federal Constabulary, presented detailed briefings. They outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at combating illegal activities, strengthening institutional capacities, and fostering stability in the province.

The discussions also covered critical issues such as the repatriation of Afghan refugees, dismantling of hawala and hundi networks, and intensified efforts to curb extortion and smuggling operations. Strategies to reinforce the rule of law and improve grassroots policing were central to the dialogue. A notable resolution from the meeting was the decision to strengthen the FIA by filling all vacant positions with locally recruited personnel, thereby creating employment opportunities while enhancing the agency’s operational effectiveness at the community level.

Both governments agreed to ramp up monitoring of anti-state activities on social media platforms and to expedite legal proceedings against individuals involved in spreading propaganda or misinformation. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured that the federal government would provide full support in counter-terrorism efforts and pledged to assist in upgrading the professional capabilities of the Balochistan police force through modern training programs and resource allocation.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasized the provincial administration’s firm resolve to eradicate terrorism and restore law and order across Balochistan. He highlighted the progress made in maintaining public order, noting that, unlike in the past, highways in the province are no longer being blocked under the pretext of protests. This improvement, he said, is a direct result of effective security strategies and enhanced coordination between federal and provincial institutions.

The meeting also included the participation of prominent provincial figures such as Mir Zia Langove, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqaat, Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir Khan, and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Imran Zarkoon, alongside other senior officials. At the conclusion of the session, both Interior Minister Naqvi and Chief Minister Bugti reiterated their commitment to continue working collaboratively through a well-coordinated approach. Their shared goal remains to ensure durable peace, strengthen the writ of the state, and protect the lives and property of the citizens of Balochistan.
