NADRA Alerts Public to Rising Threat of Fake Websites Targeting Personal Data

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has raised an urgent alert to the public regarding a surge in fraudulent websites that mimic official NADRA platforms. These fake sites are designed to deceive users into divulging sensitive personal information, posing a significant risk of identity theft and financial fraud. NADRA has emphasized the importance of verifying the legitimacy of any online service claiming to represent the authority before submitting any personal details.

In its recent advisory, NADRA clarified that all government-related visa services are exclusively available through its official online portal. Citizens seeking to apply for Pakistani visas must use the authorized website at https://visa.nadra.gov.pk. The authority firmly stated that it does not endorse or collaborate with any third-party websites offering visa application services, warning that any transactions or data shared on such unauthorized platforms are done at the user’s own risk.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the National Cyber Emergency Response Team Pakistan (National CERT) disclosed that between February and March, they successfully identified and shut down nine malicious domains impersonating NADRA’s services. These counterfeit websites were crafted to mislead unsuspecting citizens, often employing sophisticated tactics to harvest personal data under false pretenses. The swift action by National CERT underscores the ongoing efforts to safeguard Pakistan’s digital infrastructure against cybercriminal activities.

Authorities have issued clear guidelines for citizens to protect themselves from falling victim to these scams. They urge everyone to always confirm the authenticity of any website before entering personal information and to rely solely on official government domains ending with “.gov.pk” for NADRA-related services. The official NADRA website is https://www.nadra.gov.pk/, and the designated visa portal remains https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/. Additionally, users are cautioned against clicking on suspicious links received via emails, text messages, or social media platforms, as these could lead to fraudulent sites designed to compromise personal security.

Earlier this year, NADRA also issued a public warning about another fake visa website operating under the domain visa.nadragov.online. This site is not affiliated with NADRA and is believed to be used to collect personal details and payments fraudulently. Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid accessing this website and to refrain from sharing any information or making payments through it.

In conclusion, NADRA and National CERT reaffirm their commitment to continuously monitor and respond to cyber threats targeting Pakistani citizens. They emphasize that vigilance and awareness are crucial in combating identity theft and protecting the integrity of Pakistan’s digital services. By following official channels and exercising caution online, users can help prevent the misuse of their personal data and contribute to a safer digital environment for all.
