Islamabad and Doha have resolved to tighten their security ties and broaden joint work on domestic security, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the two sides held detailed talks on widening cooperation in internal security. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration between their interior ministries and agreed to deepen the partnership.
Interior ministers pledge joint work on regional stability
Naqvi said Pakistan and Qatar were cooperating to advance peace and stability across the region. He said Islamabad was ready to keep working with Doha on issues of shared interest, especially internal security and regional stability.
The Qatari interior minister said his country placed great importance on its relations with Pakistan. The meeting came one day after Naqvi addressed the 8th Global Security Forum in Doha, where he made similar points about joint efforts for regional calm.
Naqvi’s remarks on US-Iran mediation and regional tensions
Speaking at the forum on Monday, Naqvi said Pakistan had made every possible effort to bring Washington and Tehran to the negotiating table. He acknowledged that tensions had at times escalated sharply, but said Islamabad had not abandoned its efforts.
The remarks come as Yemen’s internationally recognised government forces continue to fight Houthi rebels, who are also targeting Saudi Arabia. On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days still stood, but progress depended on Washington’s response to Iran’s conditions.
Naqvi praised Qatar’s diplomatic efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran, saying the two neighbours had worked together to prevent further escalation. “Peace cannot be achieved in a single meeting. It requires patience, trust and continuous efforts,” he said, stressing the need for sustained diplomacy.
