Karachi police and Rangers bust gang that smuggled 230 Afghans

Sindh Rangers and District West Police arrested up to five suspects in a joint operation in Karachi’s Surjani Town area, a Rangers spokesperson said. The suspects were allegedly part of an inter-provincial human smuggling network.

The spokesperson named the detainees as Abdul Aziz, Muhammad Bakhsh, Ali Hassan, Nadeem and Jamil. They were accused of moving illegal Afghan nationals from Hub to Karachi and arranging temporary housing for them in Hub.

Weapons, drugs and vehicles seized in the raid

Arms, ammunition, drugs and loader vehicles were recovered from the suspects, the spokesperson said. To avoid arrest, the group travelled along unpaved routes through Manghopir, Band Murad and Surjani Town.

Smuggling fees and ongoing search for accomplices

According to initial investigations, the suspects charged Rs 200,000 per family for the journey to Karachi. They had already smuggled 230 illegal Afghan nationals into the city, using small vehicles and motorcycles.

Raids are continuing to arrest more members of the network, the spokesperson added.
