Over 82,000 QR pink buttons installed on Punjab public transport

The Punjab government has begun pasting QR “Pink Buttons” across the province on public transport vehicles, rickshaws and online cabs, following special directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The move is mandatory and is intended to secure public transport and bring vehicles within the domain of the law.

Officials said a total of 82,000 buttons have been pasted so far, and 22,000 men and women have scanned them in online cabs and rickshaws.

Installation teams and emergency help for women

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi said the buttons are being installed at 45 locations across the city. Installation teams are present in every traffic sector, with 12 separate teams assigned to rickshaws.

The CTO noted that in cases of harassment, women can immediately scan the QR code to seek emergency assistance.

New licensing centres and action against online cabs

Upon the request of rickshaw unions, four new licensing centres have been set up, Sherazi said. He added that modern security features and smart traffic management are being actively promoted.

The CTO also warned that a strict decision has been taken against online cab services that fail to adopt the new safety and security features.
