Pakistan and Türkiye Leaders Engage in Dialogue Over Middle East Crisis and Regional Peace Efforts

On Tuesday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a significant telephone conversation focusing on the intensifying conflict in the Middle East and the broader implications for regional security. This high-level dialogue took place amid rising hostilities following recent military actions targeting Iranian sites, which have heightened fears of a larger-scale confrontation across the Gulf region.

During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his strong condemnation of the Israeli strikes against Iran, describing the attacks as deeply regrettable. He also voiced concern over the subsequent missile assaults on other Gulf countries, which have further destabilized an already fragile security environment. Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering support for its Gulf allies and highlighted Islamabad’s proactive diplomatic outreach to these nations in an effort to foster unity and mutual cooperation.

In addition to condemning violence, the Pakistani leader underscored Islamabad’s readiness to contribute constructively to dialogue aimed at de-escalating tensions. Both leaders concurred on the urgent need for all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further aggravation of the conflict. Their conversation also touched upon recent developments in Afghanistan, where ongoing instability continues to pose challenges to regional peace. They agreed to maintain close communication and coordination as part of their shared commitment to fostering stability across South and Central Asia.

From the Turkish side, President Erdoğan reiterated Ankara’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, highlighting the importance of collaboration in combating extremist threats. Erdoğan also referenced Türkiye’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, a diplomatic achievement that underscores Ankara’s growing influence as a regional mediator. He stressed the necessity of reinvigorated regional diplomacy in light of the recent attacks on Iran, signaling Türkiye’s willingness to assist in efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue among conflicting parties.

This exchange between the two leaders comes at a critical juncture, as the Middle East faces a surge in violence following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets. The subsequent missile retaliations across Gulf states have raised alarm bells about the potential for a broader regional war. Against this backdrop, the conversation between Sharif and Erdoğan highlights the importance of diplomatic engagement and multilateral cooperation in preventing further escalation and preserving peace in a volatile region.
