In Rawalpindi, Aleema Khan, the sister of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has once again brought to light critical concerns regarding her brother’s health and the manner in which the government is managing his medical treatment. Speaking candidly with the media, Aleema emphasized that safeguarding Imran Khan’s health remains the family’s utmost priority amid ongoing uncertainties about his recovery process.
During her recent statements, Aleema revealed that despite previous assurances, Imran Khan’s eye condition has shown little to no improvement. She disclosed that during his latest medical examination, Imran himself conveyed that his affected eye remains largely impaired, with an estimated 90 percent of the damage still unresolved. This revelation starkly contradicts official government narratives that have suggested progress in his recovery, casting doubts on the transparency and accuracy of the information being shared publicly.
Adding to the family’s distress, Aleema expressed deep apprehension over the possibility that the ailment could spread to Imran Khan’s other eye, potentially leading to further complications. She urged authorities to facilitate an immediate transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital, a facility known for its advanced medical care, to ensure he receives the specialized treatment his condition demands. This call underscores the family’s frustration with the current arrangements, which they believe are inadequate and possibly detrimental to his health.
Aleema also criticized the government’s refusal to accept doctors recommended by the family, instead appointing its own medical team to oversee Imran Khan’s treatment within the confines of Adiala Jail. She highlighted a troubling breakdown in communication when one of the government-assigned doctors, initially suggested by the family, ceased coordination with the family’s medical experts. This lack of cooperation has fueled concerns about the impartiality and thoroughness of the medical care being provided.
Furthermore, Aleema pointed out inconsistencies in the government’s approach to visitation rights. While the family of Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s former spouse, was permitted entry into the jail premises, they were denied the opportunity to meet with him. This selective access has raised questions about the fairness and transparency of the treatment Imran Khan is receiving. In response to these issues, senior lawyer Latif Khosa has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking judicial intervention to guarantee independent medical examinations and proper healthcare for the former prime minister without further delay.
In a related development, Aleema Khan also voiced criticism toward both the government and the leadership within PTI regarding the handling of Imran Khan’s legal battles and health concerns. Speaking outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi alongside her legal counsel Faisal Malik, she underscored the gravity of the situation, warning that when a government begins to challenge constitutional norms, it endangers the rule of law itself.
She revealed that Imran Khan has been persistently urging his legal team to expedite hearings for his cases, emphasizing the urgency of judicial proceedings. Aleema questioned the role of senators and members of the National Assembly in advocating for timely court dates, implying that political representatives should take responsibility for ensuring justice is served promptly. She also reiterated the seriousness of Imran Khan’s eye condition, stressing that if she were in the position of a lawyer, she would dedicate every effort to preparing the necessary legal actions to safeguard his health and rights.
Moreover, Aleema disclosed that Gohar Ali Khan, a close associate, received a call requesting the names of two doctors to be sent to the jail for Imran Khan’s examination. However, she firmly opposed the idea of conducting medical tests within the jail environment, insisting that all necessary examinations be carried out in a hospital setting to guarantee proper care and accuracy. This stance reflects ongoing concerns about the adequacy of medical facilities available inside the prison and the potential risks posed by the current treatment arrangements.
Overall, Aleema Khan’s statements paint a troubling picture of Imran Khan’s health situation and the challenges faced by his family in securing appropriate medical attention. Her demands for transparency, independent medical access, and better treatment highlight the broader issues surrounding the care of high-profile political figures in custody and the responsibilities of the government in upholding their rights and well-being.
