Lahore Government Schools to Commence Annual Exams from March 9, 2026

The government schools in Lahore are gearing up for their annual examination session, which is scheduled to begin on March 9, 2026. This important academic event will be conducted in two separate shifts to accommodate the large number of students and ensure smooth administration. The morning shift will run from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM, while the afternoon shift is planned from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. It is important to note that on Fridays, the afternoon session will be adjusted slightly, taking place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM to align with local considerations.

The exam schedule has been carefully structured to cover a wide range of subjects across different grade levels. For instance, first-grade students will kick off their exams with English on the opening day. Meanwhile, second graders will begin their assessments with General Knowledge, setting a diverse academic tone right from the start. Third-grade pupils will face their first test in Islamic Studies or Ethics, reflecting the curriculum’s emphasis on moral education. Fourth graders will start with Mathematics, a core subject essential for building foundational skills.

As the exams progress, fifth-grade students will also begin with Islamic Studies or Ethics, continuing the focus on religious and ethical instruction. Sixth graders will have Mathematics as their initial subject, highlighting the importance of numeracy at this stage. Seventh-grade students will encounter a slightly different start, with their first exams covering Computer Science and Arabic, indicating an expansion into both technological literacy and language skills. Eighth graders will commence their exams with Mathematics, underscoring the subject’s critical role in the curriculum.

In addition to these core subjects, the examination schedule includes special assessments for Quran Recitation, Quran Translation, and Tajweed Rules. These exams are designed to evaluate students’ proficiency in religious studies and their understanding of Quranic teachings. Furthermore, specialized tests focusing on Reading, Listening, and Speaking skills will be conducted, aiming to enhance students’ overall communication abilities.

For eighth-grade students, the annual exams will also feature assessments under the School-Based Assessment (SBA) system. These SBA exams will cover Mathematics, Urdu, English, and Science, and will be held at the students’ respective examination centers. This approach allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of students’ academic progress throughout the year.

To ensure the smooth execution of these exams, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the educational districts have been instructed to strictly enforce the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to the End-of-Year SBA 2026. This directive aims to maintain the integrity and fairness of the examination process, safeguarding the interests of all students involved. The upcoming exams mark a significant milestone in the academic calendar of Lahore’s government schools, reflecting ongoing efforts to uphold educational standards and support student development across the city.
