Kuwait Refutes Social Media Rumors of Attacks on Luxury Towers Amid Regional Tensions

The Kuwaiti government has firmly rejected recent social media claims alleging attacks on high-rise and luxury residential buildings located in the southern region of the country. These rumors, which have been circulating widely online, were swiftly labeled as unfounded and misleading by the Ministry of Interior. The ministry’s Cybercrime Department took immediate action to address the misinformation, emphasizing the importance of verifying facts before sharing content that could incite unnecessary alarm.

First Lieutenant Dhari Al-Awadhi, a spokesperson for the Cybercrime Department, highlighted that a number of fabricated reports, including doctored video footage, have been deliberately disseminated across various social media platforms. He cautioned that such false narratives not only distort public perception but also pose a serious threat to national security by fostering fear and confusion among citizens. The department has been actively monitoring these developments to prevent the spread of panic and maintain public order.

In his statement, Al-Awadhi urged the general public to exercise caution and refrain from trusting unverified social media posts. He stressed the necessity of awaiting official announcements from government authorities before drawing conclusions or sharing information. This call for prudence comes at a time when regional tensions are notably heightened, making the environment particularly sensitive to misinformation that could exacerbate instability.

Authorities have also announced that the Cybercrime Department is meticulously tracking down the individuals and social media accounts responsible for propagating these baseless rumors. Legal measures are being prepared against those found guilty of publishing or promoting false news that threatens the peace and security of the nation. This firm stance underscores Kuwait’s commitment to combating disinformation and safeguarding its citizens from the adverse effects of fake news.

Officials reiterated that no credible evidence exists to support the claims of any attacks on residential towers in Kuwait. They emphasized that the videos and posts fueling these rumors have been manipulated and taken out of context, often originating from sources with unclear motives. The government continues to encourage residents to rely solely on verified information disseminated through official channels to avoid contributing to unnecessary panic or unrest.

Furthermore, Al-Awadhi appealed to social media users to act responsibly by promoting calm and reassurance within their communities. He pointed out that the Cybercrime Department has established a dedicated WhatsApp contact line to facilitate public inquiries and report suspicious content. This initiative aims to enhance communication between authorities and the public, ensuring timely and accurate information flow during sensitive situations.
