Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Explains 7.05% Water Tariff Increase

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has announced a 7.05 percent increase in water tariffs, aiming to address the rising costs of water supply and infrastructure maintenance. This adjustment reflects the growing financial demands to sustain and improve Karachi’s water distribution network, which serves millions of residents. The corporation emphasized that the tariff revision is necessary to ensure the continued provision of clean and reliable water services across the city.

In a significant development, KW&SC highlighted that the tariff hike is part of broader efforts to upgrade aging infrastructure and reduce water losses caused by leakages and theft. The increase is expected to generate additional revenue, which will be reinvested in modernizing treatment plants and expanding service coverage. Meanwhile, the corporation assured consumers that the adjustment remains within reasonable limits to balance affordability and operational sustainability.

Notably, Karachi faces ongoing challenges related to water scarcity and distribution inefficiencies, making tariff adjustments a critical component of long-term water management strategies. The 7.05 percent rise aims to support these initiatives while encouraging responsible water usage among consumers. As Karachi continues to grow, such measures are vital to securing the city’s water future and improving overall public health and sanitation standards.
