The issue arose due to a technical malfunction in the main valves of the K-II Pump House, which forced the shutdown of three critical pumps at the facility. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) confirmed that the power outage directly impacted the operation of the main valves, necessitating an immediate halt to pumping activities to prevent further damage. As a result, the city’s daily water distribution is expected to decline by approximately 100 million gallons, affecting the availability of water in several densely populated areas.
Among the localities facing temporary water shortages are North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Buffer Zone, Block 13-D of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, and parts of Scheme 33. These regions are likely to experience intermittent supply interruptions until the situation is resolved. The KWSC has assured the public that repair efforts are actively underway to restore full functionality to the pumping station.
In a significant development, authorities are working to complete maintenance and resume water supply in a phased manner to minimize disruption.
