Punjab Food Authority Destroys 1,200kg of Unsafe Meat Bound for Rawalpindi

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) recently confiscated and destroyed 1,200 kilograms of unsafe meat that was reportedly being transported for distribution in Rawalpindi markets. This action is part of a broader crackdown on food safety violations across the province.

The operation took place near the Thalian Motorway Toll Plaza, where PFA teams established a checkpoint and intercepted a vehicle suspected of carrying meat under unhygienic and questionable conditions. The meat was sourced from the Sargodha-Jhang Road area and intended for supply within Rawalpindi city.

During the inspection, a veterinary doctor examined the meat consignment and declared it unfit for human consumption. Consequently, the entire shipment was destroyed on-site to prevent it from entering the food supply chain.

Authorities revealed that the meat had been concealed inside the vehicle, which was subsequently seized by police. One individual was arrested during the operation. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the Punjab Food Authority, and legal proceedings are currently underway against those involved.

In a significant development, the PFA emphasized that enforcement teams are continuing province-wide efforts to combat the transportation and sale of substandard meat. The authority warned that strict measures will be taken against anyone found jeopardizing public health.

Meanwhile, the PFA urged citizens to report any food safety concerns through its helpline, 1223, to assist authorities in identifying and addressing violations promptly.
