In a tragic incident on Karachi’s Sharea Faisal late Monday night, Dr Sarang Memon was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen, police confirmed on Tuesday. Dr Memon, who lived near the Karachi Press Club and originally came from Badin, was attacked while traveling with his wife in a rickshaw.
Deputy Inspector General South explained that the couple was being pursued by assailants in a car. During the assault, Dr Memon sustained four gunshot wounds to his chest and legs, with the chest injury proving to be fatal. At the time, the doctor was returning home from Cantt Station.
Following the shooting, Dr Memon’s wife rushed him to the hospital in the same rickshaw, but medical staff declared him dead upon arrival. Dr Memon was employed at a private hospital located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Authorities stated that a formal case will be registered after the burial, which took place in his hometown. The police also revealed details about the deceased’s family background: one brother, an MBBS student, drowned in Jamshoro, while another brother was killed during unrest in Badin following the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
