LHC Freezes Former SP Junaid Arshad’s Accounts Over Child Maintenance Default

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the freezing of bank accounts belonging to former Superintendent of Police (SP) Junaid Arshad due to his failure to provide maintenance payments for his children. The court acted on a petition filed by Ayesha Subhani, who accused her ex-husband of neglecting his financial obligations towards their children for several months.

After examining the petition, the court instructed the relevant authorities to block the former SP’s bank accounts. Furthermore, the court has requested a detailed report on his financial status and bank accounts by April 20. This move underscores the legal and religious duty of fathers to support their children financially after divorce, based on their means. Such maintenance typically covers essential costs including food, clothing, housing, and education, with family courts often determining the specifics.

In a notable development unrelated to the case, American rapper Cardi B recently shared insights into how her personal hardships, including her divorce, have transformed her life and career. Speaking on the Aspire With Emma Grede podcast, Cardi B reflected, “I feel like last year a new person was reborn.” She added, “I don’t know if it was the divorce. I don’t know if something woke me up. I feel like I’m definitely a new person.”

Following her separation from her husband of seven years, Cardi B expressed a renewed focus on her professional ambitions, stating, “I’m 33 years old. I’m in my Jesus year. I’m in my Orisha year. This is the year. It’s like God is telling me, ‘It’s gonna be now or never take advantage of it.’”
