Nestlé Pakistan and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) have expanded their partnership through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaboration covers sustainable agriculture, food science, nutrition, applied research and workforce development. It places particular emphasis on knowledge exchange and more sustainable food systems.
Jason Avanceña, CEO and Managing Director of Nestlé Pakistan, said the company aims to create opportunities for knowledge sharing, research collaboration and leadership development. He added that the effort strengthens the company’s work in regenerative agriculture and food science, and brings together knowledge, industry expertise and young talent.
Learning Resource Center set up at UAF
A central part of the partnership is the Nestlé Learning Resource Center (NLRC), which will be established at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFSAT) at UAF. The initiative was formalized during a visit to the university by Avanceña and the company’s senior leadership.
Regenerative farming work across Punjab
Nestlé Pakistan has introduced regenerative agriculture practices on more than 125 maize, alfalfa, oats, sorghum and wheat farms across Punjab. The company is working with farmers on soil health, water efficiency, biodiversity and climate resilience.
Academic and climate goals behind the deal
Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, Vice Chancellor of UAF, said strong industry-academia linkages are essential for turning research into solutions for real-world challenges. He said the partnership would give students and researchers practical exposure while jointly exploring more resilient and sustainable food systems in Pakistan.
The collaboration also supports Nestlé Pakistan’s global ambition to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The partnership is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals 13, 15 and 17, and aims to turn knowledge into more sustainable and resilient food systems.
