Turkiye bus crash kills 11 and injures 27 in Manisa

At least 11 people have been killed and 27 others injured in western Turkiye after a tour bus crashed into a tow truck on Sunday morning. The collision happened near the Akhisar toll booths on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir highway in Manisa province.

According to the Manisa governor’s office, emergency services received a report of the crash shortly after 11am local time. The injured were transported to hospitals in the area, and the bus driver, who was among those hurt, was taken into police custody after he was discharged from treatment.

Overturned vehicles and heavy damage at the scene

Images from the site showed body bags laid out along the roadside beside the upturned bus, whose rear end was badly damaged. The tow truck, which appeared to be hauling wooden planks, had also rolled over.

Turkiye’s Interior Minister, Mustafa Ciftci, described the dead and wounded as citizens in a post on X. Authorities have not yet said whether any foreign nationals were among the casualties.

Governor visits site as prosecutors coordinate recovery

Manisa governor Vahdettin Ozkan visited the crash site while emergency crews were clearing the wreckage. He said that work there was continuing under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and stressed the importance of obeying traffic rules.
