Kuwait Issues Overnight Stay-Home Advisory Amid Heightened Security Measures

Authorities in Kuwait have issued a precautionary overnight advisory instructing residents to stay indoors from midnight until 6am. This directive, announced by the Interior Ministry, applies to both citizens and expatriates, urging them to avoid leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary. The advisory, while unusual, is intended to enhance public safety without causing alarm.

In Kuwait City, the advisory has been widely disseminated, with officials emphasizing the importance of full compliance. Although the authorities aim to prevent panic, they have made it clear that exceptions will be minimal. At present, there is no information on whether this measure will be extended or if it is a one-time precaution.

In a significant development, Kuwait has recently intensified its internal security operations amid regional tensions. The Ministry of Interior deployed approximately 600 patrol units across all six governorates within a 24-hour period. This increased presence is designed to improve response times to incidents and reinforce security at key roadways and intersections.

The General Directorate of Emergency Police reported handling around 1,970 incidents between February 28 and April 5, 2026. The majority of these involved drone-related reports, totaling 1,141 cases, followed by 388 reports concerning explosions. Additionally, emergency services responded to 375 reports of suspicious foreign objects and attended to locations where shrapnel was found. There were also 66 reports of suspicious individuals near sensitive sites.

During the same timeframe, the central operations room’s Hotline No. 112 received 6,571 calls. Authorities established 1,664 field posts and executed 117 service orders to secure critical infrastructure and vital locations throughout the country.
