A woman was found dead on Monday inside a flat in Karachi’s Defence Phase 8, police said. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Shumaila, and preliminary investigations suggest she took her own life by cutting her hamstrings.
Police moved the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy. An investigation has been opened to learn more about the woman, her family and the circumstances that led to her death.
Elderly couple found dead in North Karachi home
In a separate case, an elderly couple who had recently come back from Canada were found dead with signs of violence inside their house in North Karachi, prompting police to register a double murder case. The victims were identified as Yameen and his wife, Nafisa Akhtar.
The case was registered at Sir Syed Police Station on the complaint of Muhammad Anwar, Yameen’s brother. According to the complainant, Yameen had started renovation work after returning from Canada and had asked his sister to leave the property.
Brother discovered bodies after calls went unanswered
Anwar told police he grew worried when the couple stopped picking up their phones. He went to the residence, opened the door with a duplicate key and found both bodies in a pool of blood in the TV lounge before alerting the police.
The complainant alleged that unidentified assailants killed the couple for unknown reasons. Investigative sources said both victims had suffered severe head injuries, raising suspicion they may have been struck with a heavy object. Post-mortem examinations were completed at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Police seek labourers as home minister demands report
Police have yet to trace the labourers who had been working at the house. Investigators are questioning workers in the surrounding area to establish how the killings took place and to identify suspects.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar sought details of the incident from SSP Central. He directed police to take immediate steps to establish the facts, and instructed Central Police to meet all legal requirements and submit a report on the incident and initial findings.
