WhatsApp is preparing to let users add sound to stickers, a change that could expand one of the app’s most popular features. According to a tech publication that examined the latest beta, version v2.26.41.11, the feature is still in development.
The publication said it found signs of the feature in that version and tested it, describing the early results as promising. Other changes spotted in the same build include a sticker outline option and a redesigned message box.
How audio would work in WhatsApp stickers
When creating a sticker from an image, users will see a sound wave icon in the toolbar on the right. Tapping it lets them record their voice or choose an audio file from their device, with clips lasting up to 10 seconds.
For animated stickers, WhatsApp will add five seconds of audio from the original video by default. Users can replace it with a custom audio file, and after sending, a speaker icon will let them turn the sound on or off.
Sticker outline toggle and message box changes
WhatsApp will also let users remove the outline that usually appears when making stickers, with a toggle in the sticker creation toolbar. Separately, the company is testing a two-line message box, with attachments, GIFs, stickers and photos moved to the bottom line and typing done on the top line.
These features are still being developed, so the final version may look different from what has been shown so far.
