Ugreen has released a budget-friendly external M.2 SSD enclosure in two versions, one of which supports transfer speeds of up to 20Gbps. The promotional material refers to USB 3.0 Gen 2 for that speed, but the correct standard is USB 3.2 Gen 2×2.
The 10Gbps version uses USB 3.2 Gen 2, which matches its advertised speed. Apart from that, both versions share the same features.
Design and compatibility of the Ugreen enclosure
Both models include a built-in USB-C cable and a Type-C to Type-A adapter for devices without a USB-C port. Ugreen says the aluminum body keeps the unit lightweight and helps with heat dissipation. The promotional materials also claim that installing an SSD takes only four steps.
The enclosure supports 2280, 2230, 2242 and 2260 M.2 SSDs, with drives up to 8TB. It also has an indicator light, a modern design and an adjustable clip on the braided Type-C cable.
Amazon prices for both enclosure versions
On Amazon, the 10Gbps version costs $29.99, while the 20Gbps model usually sells for $39.99. Currently, the faster model is priced at $34.99, making it the better deal of the two.
