Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week at the invitation of Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, according to reports. It will be the prime minister’s first visit to the province since an emergency and governor’s rule were imposed.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other ministers will accompany the premier. Sources said he will be briefed at the Governor’s House on the law and order situation and development projects in the province.
Briefings and tribal elders meeting planned
The prime minister will also be briefed on the 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa most severely affected by terrorism. Sources added that he will meet tribal elders during the trip.
ANP chief responds to governor’s outreach
Earlier, Governor Kundi met Awami National Party (ANP) chief Aimal Wali Khan. Kundi told him he had come to request cooperation for the betterment of the Pashtun land and the nation.
Aimal Wali Khan said governor’s rule is a constitutional measure but an undemocratic step, adding that the reasons for reaching that point should be considered. An ANP leader said the party had complaints but was confident they would be addressed after talks with the governor. He added that the ANP would back whichever side works for the betterment of Pakhtunkhwa.
