Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for an official visit at the invitation of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The visit aims to deepen bilateral relations and facilitate discussions on regional and international matters of mutual concern.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that this visit underscores the enduring brotherly ties between Pakistan and Kuwait, built on a foundation of shared history, trust, and close cooperation. Upon his arrival at Islamabad International Airport, Sheikh Al-Sabah was welcomed by Additional Secretary (Middle East) Zahid Hussain.
During his stay, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister is also scheduled to meet with Pakistan’s leadership for courtesy calls. This diplomatic engagement follows recent reports revealing ongoing negotiations between Pakistan and Kuwait to expand their defence cooperation in exchange for energy collaboration and investment.
Since 2023, Kuwait and Pakistan have maintained a limited defence agreement focused on training and joint military exercises. However, Kuwait is now seeking a more substantial security arrangement akin to Pakistan’s pact with Saudi Arabia. This proposed deal would involve deploying thousands of Pakistani troops on Kuwaiti soil, along with fighter jets, drones, air defence systems, and other defence infrastructure, signaling a significant enhancement of military cooperation between the two countries.
