In Lahore’s Defence area, police apprehended a young man involved in aerial firing close to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar’s vehicle. The suspect was tracked down using Safe City surveillance and advanced technology.

The incident took place on Friday night when the individual overtook the minister’s car and discharged five shots into the air before fleeing the scene. Authorities later arrested him, confiscated the firearm allegedly used, and impounded his vehicle.

Minister Tarar recounted that he was traveling with his family when the suspect’s car passed on the left side and the shots were fired. They pursued the vehicle and informed police at a checkpoint. Tarar emphasized that the firing was not directed at him personally but was an act of aerial shooting. He confirmed that legal proceedings are underway.

In a related development, two days earlier, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Inspector General Raja Akmal revealed that reports had been received about gunfire targeting the convoy of former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas. The police officer stated that investigations are ongoing and that those responsible will face consequences.

Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’ spokesperson posted on Facebook that the attack occurred in the Tain-Dhalkot area, resulting in the death of Ilyas’ guard, Muhammad Asif, and injuries to several others in the convoy. This violent episode took place shortly before the July 27 elections for the region’s 53-member Legislative Assembly.
