SHC Rejects Dual Domicile Holder’s Request for Karachi Government Job

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has dismissed a petition filed by an individual holding dual domiciles who sought employment in a government position in Karachi. The court’s decision underscores the strict adherence to domicile requirements for public sector jobs within the province. This ruling reaffirms the legal framework that prioritizes candidates with a single domicile, particularly in metropolitan areas like Karachi.

Dual domicile holders have often faced legal challenges when applying for government roles, as provincial regulations typically mandate exclusive residency status to ensure local representation and resource allocation. The SHC’s verdict highlights the judiciary’s role in maintaining these standards, which are designed to protect local employment opportunities. Meanwhile, this decision may impact other applicants with similar dual domicile claims across Sindh.

In a significant development for public sector recruitment, the court’s dismissal may prompt government departments to tighten verification processes for domicile certificates. This ruling also sends a clear message about the importance of residency qualifications in securing government jobs, potentially influencing future policy discussions on domicile criteria. The outcome is expected to affect employment practices and legal interpretations related to domicile status in Sindh.
