Iran is moving forward with plans to link its national electricity grid to Qatar’s, marking a significant step in expanding regional energy collaboration, stated Iran’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi. The project is currently transitioning from feasibility studies to the initial implementation phase.

Aliabadi highlighted that feasibility assessments for the Iran-Qatar grid interconnection are nearly complete. Meanwhile, Tehran is also exploring potential electricity grid connections with other Gulf nations, indicating a broader initiative to integrate Iran more deeply into the regional power infrastructure.

This interconnection with Qatar is part of Iran’s broader strategy to enhance energy exchange capabilities, improve the stability of power grids, and foster cross-border infrastructure cooperation within the Gulf region.

Although officials have not specified a timeline for the project’s completion, they emphasized steady progress as technical evaluations wrap up and implementation plans are developed. Additional information about the project’s capacity, transmission routes, and involvement of other Gulf partners is expected to be disclosed as negotiations and technical preparations continue.
