Punjab Government Extends Section 144 for 30 Days Amid Security Concerns

The Punjab government has announced a 30-day extension of Section 144 across the province, prohibiting public gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations. This decision was formalized through an official notification issued by the Punjab Home Department.

The restrictions have been imposed in response to ongoing terrorism threats and concerns over maintaining law and order. Notably, the ban on flying drones outdoors remains in place due to security risks, although small drones are permitted inside halls and markets.

In a significant development, the Home Department emphasized that these measures are precautionary, aimed at preserving public peace and preventing any potential disturbances. Under the new orders, holding public gatherings in open spaces without prior authorization is strictly forbidden.

Additionally, the display of weapons has been completely prohibited throughout Punjab. However, law enforcement personnel are exempt from this ban while performing their official duties. The notification also exempts wedding parties, funerals, and court proceedings from the restrictions.

District administrations and police have been instructed to enforce Section 144 rigorously to ensure compliance. While the notification mentions a seven-day enforcement period, the overall extension of Section 144 spans 30 days across the province.
