Petrol Pump Owners Threaten Nationwide Shutdown Over Unaddressed Demands

The All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association has issued a warning about a potential nationwide closure of thousands of petrol stations if their demands are not promptly addressed. This development raises concerns about a looming fuel shortage across the country.

In a recent communication, the association requested an urgent meeting with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik. This follows an earlier letter sent on March 6, which reportedly received no response. The association stressed the critical need for dialogue to resolve ongoing issues.

The letter outlined significant operational, financial, and policy challenges currently affecting the petroleum sector. It noted that abrupt policy shifts have further complicated the situation, making it increasingly difficult for stakeholders to navigate the sector effectively. The association urged the government to involve industry representatives in the policy formulation process to ensure more sustainable solutions.

Highlighting the scale of the problem, the association stated that approximately 14,000 to 15,000 petrol pump owners nationwide are grappling with these difficulties. Without immediate intervention, they may be compelled to halt their operations across Pakistan.

In a significant development, the association warned that such a shutdown could lead to a severe fuel shortage, placing responsibility squarely on the Ministry of Petroleum for any resulting disruptions. The situation underscores the urgent need for government action to prevent a crisis in the fuel supply chain.
