Police in Rawalpindi said a man accused of the sexual assault and killing of his 15-year-old niece was shot dead in what they described as an encounter with a Crime Control Department (CCD) team. The suspect, Mumrez Abbasi, a resident of Abbottabad, died in a gunfight beside Children’s Park near Alamabad Stop, within the area covered by Ratta Amral Police Station.
Two alleged accomplices managed to flee, and police have launched a search to arrest them. Investigators seized a .30-bore pistol and ammunition from the slain suspect.
How the 15-year-old’s death unfolded
According to police, the girl had left home to attend a madrassa when the suspect allegedly took her to his house. There, he is alleged to have sexually assaulted her and then killed her, days before the case came to light. Her body was later found at his residence.
Footage that reportedly shows the suspect meeting the girl on a street and handing her money before the incident has also emerged.
Murder case and CCD assignment
Police said a murder case had been registered at Pirwadhai Police Station on the complaint of the girl’s father. Three days earlier, the CCD was given responsibility for investigating the case and tracking down the suspect.
