Anmol alias Pinky has asked a Karachi court to acquit her in a narcotics case registered at the Counter Terrorism Department police station. She maintains that prosecutors have not supplied enough evidence against her.
The application was lodged under Section 265-K of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The sessions court has sent notices to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and asked the state prosecutor to respond at the next hearing.
Defence says no solid evidence exists
Defence counsel Mir Hidayatullah told the court that no strong evidence stood against his client and asked for her acquittal. He added that Anmol had already been cleared in three cases registered in the Gizri area.
Separately, two alleged facilitators of the accused in this case have reportedly absconded after obtaining bail.
Earlier Gizri acquittals and co-accused outcomes
In August, a Karachi court acquitted Anmol, described as an alleged drug dealer, in three drug-related cases at Gizri Police Station. The Additional District and Sessions Court (South) accepted her acquittal pleas in all three matters.
According to the defence, those cases were filed in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and she had been declared a fugitive in each one. Her lawyer said two co-accused, Ali and Fahmida, were acquitted in 2024. He also argued that Anmol had been named on the strength of statements allegedly recorded from those co-accused.
With both co-accused cleared, prosecutors were unable to obtain a conviction against Anmol, the lawyer contended. The court noted that prosecutors had not furnished adequate proof before ruling in her favour.
